My name is Tate Mayo. I am a lifelong resident of Tarboro with the exception of the time that I spent away in college. I attended Princeville Montessori, Patillo and graduated from Rocky Mount Academy to major in Agriculture Science at NC State. My childhood was spent on the family farm on the other side of the river until we moved into town in the early 2000s. Growing up I was involved in Scouting from Tiger Cubs until I turned 18 and had earned my Eagle Scout. I am a lifelong member of Howard Memorial Presbyterian Church. From Wondrous Wednesdays as a child to the youth group in my youth to becoming the youngest elder to my current role as the Youth Director I have just about come full circle.
Currently I work full-time at Piney Grove Farm. I make socks on the rainy days at Mayo Knitting Mill, my family's business in Tarboro since 1932. My Sundays are spent at Howard Memorial helping with the children and youth of the church. My education is continuing through North Carolina Tobacco Trust Fund's Agricultural Leadership Development Program, of which I am in the 2020-2023 Cohort. I am an active member in Farm Bureau's Young Farmers and Ranchers program and most Thursdays I make it to Rotary Club.
As a younger man I never thought I would move back to Tarboro after college. After being away for my education it came to me that there was no place that I've been that made me happier than being in Tarboro. I am very fortunate to call this town my home and hope that I can give back as much to the town as the town has given me over the years.
